Mandatory Continuous Professional Development (MCPD)

The Institute’s Mandatory Continuous Professional Development module (MCPD) applies to all members, except those who are fully retired. Members are required to undertake MCPD on an ongoing basis and declare compliance annually to the institute. The Institute places a high premium on the level of professional competence and appreciation of its members through constant human capacity/professional development and training. The time and place of MCPD shall be duly communicated to members as at when due.

Sequel to the above, it is very important to maintain your ICBAN membership and to ensure that our database administrator has your updated information. We suggest that all members keep their contact information up to date to receive information about new courses or benefits. Please remember to make sure you keep your contact details up to date. If you have changed your email or home/business address, remember to contact the institute with this updated information.

Special MBA Programme - The MBA Scheme

The institute also runs a specialized professional and managerial competence model styled Mercantile Business Administrators Scheme, i.e., the MBA scheme. This scheme’s certification recognizes and confers competence on business owners and administrators who, though may not have the requisite academic qualifications to be members of the institute, have through diligence, focus, practical informal training have over the years shown dexterity and mastered the art of managing businesses to record success levels.

• Entitlement to membership certificate given under the approval of the council.

• Continued professional training through meetings, seminars, conferences, and courses at minimal contributions, within and outside Nigeria.

• The improvement and development of the science of management, commerce, and industries, to foster and maintain investigations and researches into the application of such sciences.

Certification

There are two categories of certification under the MBA scheme. These are:
1.Full Membership (SMBA)

REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be running a business registered in Nigeria with evidence of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission either as a limited liability company or as a business name registration.
He or she must be the Chairman, President, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or Managing Director of the business and must have evidence of having been running the enterprise for a minimum period of 10 years.
Fill out ICBAN membership form and forward same to the institute’s national secretariat accompanied with evidence of payment of the approved form and membership fees.
2. Associate (AMBA)

REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be running a business registered in Nigeria with evidence of registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission either as a limited liability company or as a business name registration.
He or she must be the Chairman, President, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or Managing Director, General Manager of the business or Manager employed to run the business and must have evidence of having been running the enterprise for a minimum period of 5 years.
Fill out ICBAN membership form and forward same to the institute’s national secretariat accompanied with evidence of payment of the approved form and membership fees.

Election into Membership

Election into any of the categories of membership above shall be on formal induction of an applicant into his preferred category at the institute’s induction ceremony; an event which shall be communicated to a prospective inductee upon the provisional acceptance and approval of a prospective member’s application by the Council of the Institute.

Once elected to ICBAN membership, the inductee will be able to use the letters of the successfully inducted category designation after his or her name.

    • Honorary Fellowship
    • Corporate Leadership

The Special Awards are bestowed on individuals as well as corporate bodies at the discretion of the Council of the Institute. Each is specially conferred as a recognition of the contributions made to the world of business and enterprise over the years by a selected awardee. Annually, a Special Honors Awards Committee of the institute receives nominations for honorees, screens and evaluates same, and then makes recommendations to the Governing Council for approval. Such approved nominees are then informed with the details of the award cum investiture and later inducted with Honorary Fellowship recognition of the institute at a grand ceremony.

Student Membership

As the officially recognized professional body for business, administration professional students of business administration in Nigeria universities, polytechnics, monotechnic and others are expected to be registered members of the institute. Upon graduation, their student membership confers on them the advantage of direct professional progression to the Graduate Membership cadre after undergoing a specialized training program organized by the institute for such upgrade and fulfilling any other requirement as may from time to time be approved by the council of the institute.

MEMBERSHIP UPGRADE

There are three levels of professional membership upgrade:

  1. Associate
  2. Full Membership
  3. Fellowship

A member must fulfill the following mandatory requirements for the upgrade of his or her membership status:

  1. Fulfill the statutory period between grades of membership:
    • Licentiate to Associate: Minimum of 3 years
    • Associate to Full Membership: 5 years
    • Full Membership to Fellow: 6 years
    • Fellow To Senior Fellow: 3 years
  2. Payment of prescribed Membership Upgrade Fee
  3. Meet all other financial obligations to date
  4. Complete an Upgrading Request Form
  5. Send a Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae showing detailed Employment history to date and key responsibilities of positions.
  6. Attach all relevant credentials/certificates (including appointment/promotion letter to present position)
  7. List Contributions to the Institute’s life activities:
    • Membership of State Branch
    • Membership/Participation in Committee/Council work.
    • Attendance at the Institute Activities. (e.g Annual Conference, AGM, Annual Public Lectures etc).
